Gun Violence, a 24/7 Story in America

Gun violence in the United States of America has been a constant issue for Americans for decades. Since 1966, there has been at least one mass shooting incident in this country and no less than four after 1990. These tragic events have taken the lives of more than 1,500 people with the majority of these events taking place at schools and workplaces. Every time one of these tragedies occur the news is quick to cover the candlelight vigils, police response times, and details on the suspect. Ranging from ethnicity, religion, job, sexual orientation, or level of education. Of course, all these factors are second to the long-held debate of gun control in America and whether or not the 2nd amendment should continue to enable citizens the ability to purchase all types of firearms, if any at all. Just this past weekend, two more mass shootings occurred. One at Lincoln university, Philadelphia, resulting in one death and six injured. At a house party in North Carolina, two are reported dead, seven in critical condition, and with thirty people shot in total. As mass shootings continue to rise on average over the years, the news will continue to cover these events, and the masses will continue to witness these tragic events all while arguing over what to do about guns in this country.

  1. You highlighted how gun violence isn't something new, and it honestly can be stated that it is getting worse over the years, not better. Many do not even feel safe in schools, their work environment, or even going out because of it, and that further proves that the gun violence in this country is a pressing issue that needs to be dealt with. I also like how you address that there seems to be more arguments about gun violence itself than actually finding solutions to this problem, and until the focus is really shifted on what can be done, it seems that this issue will unfortunately continue.
